(petrol station) The shop in the petrol station is the only place to buy food on Sundays – it sells the basics plus good homemade cakes and biscuits, icecream etc. Good wine selection, English and Spanish Sunday newspapers. Gaucin Artesania. Good selection of quality traditional handmade ceramics, paintings and watercolours by local artists, locally made perfumes and beautiful handblown glassware, plus selected items of handmade clothing. Worth a visit. Nightlife There are a good number of bars which stay open til late in the summer months, some of which have live music and flamenco shows, usually at weekends. There are 3 discos, one of which has its own transvestite band... Hailwood Health Spa. 951168026 Great place to unwind and relax – great massages, beauty treatments in beautiful location in chestnut forest just outside Gaucin. Visit the magnificent castle, Castillo de Aguila (Eagles Castle). Open 11-14.00, 17.00-19.00. There are no large supermarkets or chainstores in Gaucin, but the many local food stores, general shops and specialised shops sell a large selection of food, household products and clothes. It is a true experience to shop for food in the village as the shopkeepers are very aware of the appreciation of fresh locally grown produce –whatever is in season. Prices in the village shops are generally lower than the coast. Shopping hours: 9.30-14.00, 17.00-20.00. There is a municipal food market with a churro-maker, butcher, greengrocer, fishmonger and organic health food products. A fishmonger from Algeciras with very good fresh fish comes to the petrol station each Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoon. There are two small supermarkets in Gaucin. One across from the Guardia Civil by the cross roads to Algeciras, and the other on the street by the chemist. Both have a good selection of the basic necessities.
