RAKU AND
CERAMICS WORKSHOPS

In
their former lives, Miki and Mares were two of
Austria’s
foremost practitioners of Raku – having exhibited in several galleries
and exhibitions.
Now,
in their specially constructed studio, not only do they create striking
bespoke pieces for a range of clients, but they also offer Raku classes
in order to share their knowledge and experience. Students range from
complete novices to keen artists – classes can be specially tailored to
meet each person’s expectations, and are relaxed and lots of fun.
Run from their lovely finca in the heart
of the countryside at Ronda la Vieja, just 20 minutes from Ronda.

Raku
Definition:
Rakuyaki or Raku is
a form of Japanese
pottery characterized by low firing temperatures (resulting in a
fairly porous body), lead glazes,
and the removal of pieces from the kiln while
still glowing hot. In the traditional Japanese firing process, the pot
is removed from the hot kiln and put directly into water or allowed to
cool in the open air.Raku is
considered the traditional method for creating bowls for the Japanese
tea ceremony. Raku tea
bowls are hand-made from earthenware,
each with a unique shape and style. Raku techniques have been adopted
and modified by contemporary potters worldwide. Source
