Situated on the edge of the village of Gaucin, El Cous Cous is a fabulous You are welcomed in from a quiet street, into a large hallway painted dark crimson, with large Moroccan arches, antique lamps and floor to ceiling bookshelves. Old Moroccan doors lead to a large light living/dining room with French windows opening out to the garden and pool area. There is a sofa, comfortable chairs, wood burning stove and satellite TV with DVD player. The dining table seats four; in the kitchen there are marble work surfaces, a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas hob and oven and a double sink. It is decorated with a hand made Moroccan tiled freeze set into the wall. The pretty twin bedroom has two single beds, Moroccan wall hangings and sisal covered floors. French windows open to a covered terrace area with ethnic table and chairs. The en suite shower room has a large walk-in shower, loo and basin, with mosaic tiles floors throughout, and a door opening out to the terrace. The double bedroom has a double bed with antique Moroccan wall hangings, hand-made lamps and a built in wardrobe. The en suite bathroom has a recessed bath with shower over, basin and loo, blue stucco walls with mosaic floor tiles throughout. An upstairs terrace houses the washing machine. From the living area is a lovely covered terrace, leading down to the swimming pool (10m x 5m) with full filtration system. There are pots of flowering plants and bamboo, and at one end a mosaic-fountain sundial set in to the wall. The whole pool area is walled, with jasmine and honeysuckle and palms. The garden is north African in design, with a fountain, palm trees, roses and a central fish pond with water lilies. The whole place has the feel of a Moroccan palace – hidden away, exotic and quite unexpected. Unusual and unique – Morocco in Gaucin.
