This delightful house sits in large grounds between Gaucin and the village of Colmenar - ideal for large families and groups. A substantial property, Cortijo de la Palomas, offers a high standard of accommodation for a very rewarding holiday. Well designed, spacious and elegant there is little that you would find wanting. The views are splendid with Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains of Morocco visible on a clear day. The colour palate used in the interior is subtle and restful, reflecting the local lavander and warmth of the andalucian sunshine.
The house is accessed by electric gates and a long driveway wih plenty of parking space in front of the impressive facade. It was completed in 2005 but has employed architectural antiques into the structure which emphasises the quality of the build and simultaneously adds character to the property. The ground floor rooms spread out off the hallway - each with their own disinctive feel. The sitting room is generously proportioned with a double height ceiling and french widows out onto the main terrace facing the lawns and pool. There is an wood burning stove with fuel available if required and comfortable, quality furniture. A flat screen television is provided as well as a CD & DVD. The dining room has a very weighty dining table seating ten people adjacent to the excellent kitchen. There is a five-ring gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, two fridge/ freezers, microwave and a larder. A smaller, snug sitting room is also provided.
Off the hallway, stairs lead down to a basement which has a large double garage, gym and sauna. A separate laundry room houses washing machine and tumble dryer. Miguel, the gardener/ maintenance man lives locally in the village of Colmenar and comes early to avoid disturbing guests.
Upstairs are two bedrooms. The master bedroom looks out towards the swimming pool and the views beyond - a wonderful start to the day. The kingsize bed is comfortable and the adjacent bathroom almost as big with a bath, walk -in shower and double basins. The other bedroom on this floor has two single beds and a bathroom with a walk in shower as well. The remaining bedrooms are reached via the vaulted colonnade on the ground floor. The first has also two single beds and a bathroom with a walk in shower, the fourth a double queen sized bed with its own sitting room and ensuite bathroom, whilst the fifth has two singles placed together and a super little terrace and ensuite bathroom with a walk in shower. Linen is changed weekly, but if a midweek clean and fresh linen are required then this can be arranged and paid for separately.
The garden is designed for pleasure. The swimming pool measures 12 x4 metres with a depth of 1.2 - 2.2 metres, has roman steps and is surrounded by lawn. It has solar heating, which is weather dependant, but can be a welcome boost in the months of May and September. The sense of space is impressive as one breathes in the environment so redolent of the Andalucian landscape. A large covered terrace provides shade for dining or just relaxing on the generous sized outdoor furniture. An ancient oak tree on the lawn also provides shade from the summer sun. The local village of Colmenar offers a couple of bar/ restaurants and a hotel on the road towards Gaucin also opens its restaurant to the public. The beaches on the coast are a fifty minute drive and Gaucin itself is 7 kilometres.
The breakage deposit is payable with your balance and is returnable after your stay.
