Bars & Restaurants

Spain is the country where everyone eats out on a regualr basis and it is an essential part of Andalucian culture. 'Dinner parties' at home are not where people come together - people come together in the street and what a lovely way to socialise. Ronda has a wide selection of bars and restaurants and you are unlikely to get round them all but here are some of the best -so we hope you enjoy! We have eaten in all of the restaurants reccommended.

Bodega San Francisco

Hugely popular bar and restaurant in the Barrio San Francisco with a large number of tables in the square, but in the summer you may have to wait. It is fast and furious with a reasonable standard and prices to match. A great place to take the children as they can run around in the square and it won't burn a hole in your pocket.

Carmen La De Ronda

Small restaurant serving traditional dishes - a very lively place with affordable prices. Great for tapas or a three course meal. The Plaza is one of the prettiest in the city, so lovely on a warm summers evening.

Casa Mateos

This is a great tapas bar popular with one and all. The tapas are utterly delicious - try the crunchy prawn salad and small rabo de toro burgers and the house wine is excellent. As a result it is always pretty packed from 10.00 pm onwards but it does open at 8.30 pm so you can get a table if you get there before the rest of the bunch.

De Locos Tapas

As the name suggests De Locos Tapas is no ordinary tapas bar and for that matter neither is the owner. It is an award winning bar with unusual tapas and much of the inspiration comes from the Basque in northern Spain. It has only a few tables unfortunately, so wise to book in advance. One again the early bird catches the worm! The clams are a must.

El Muelle

Definitely not to be missed - this is the best to be had in the countryside outside Ronda by a long chalk. The menu is quite wide ranging of excellent quality and offers vegetarian  options. The salads are inventive and delicious and the 'postre' excellent. Tapas include local morcilla seved with apple and almonds which is a speciality of the area. Main courses include confit of duck, good steaks  and sole with prawns.

El Zucio

A fairly new addition to the restaurant scene at the Plaze Ruedo de Alameda. Experienced restauranteurs that serve the best local fare with excellent meat dishes but maybe not ideal for vegetarians, except for the tomato salad which is first class.

Los Cazadores

Probably the best fish restaurant in Ronda - they serve very little else except fish but it is always of really good quality. Everything is cooked behing the bar in an unimaginably tiny space - so you can see it coming. The conchas finas are utterly divine and cooked to perfection everytime.

Restaurant Almocabar

Located in the Barrio de San Francisco in the old part of town this restaurant is a well kept secret among locals - try the fillet of beef cooked on a hot stone on your table, or the game pate with caramalised apple. Nice to sit in the square in summer and dine with the illuminated archway of the Almocaba gate as a backdrop. Friendly staff and good service.

Tragata

A great tapas bar just off the Plaza de España in Ronda by the bridge. An eclectic tapas bar with some nice fish dishes - salmon with lime and vanilla, for example.Good atmosphere and pleasant service. Gets pretty busy so worth reseving a table.
