FINCA EL SECRETO DEL MORO

El Secreto De Moro lives up to its name as a secret retreat, hidden away in the hills below the desirable village of Gaucin where painters have gathered over the years to depict the light and beauty of the landscape. A fact that has not escaped the existing owners of this inviting house which is filled with art and artifacts from their travels. The property is built on quite a steep hillside and naturally the views have been the premise for the overall design and architecture of the house, to facilitate the appreciation of the beguiling vista towards the Mediterranean.

The pool area feels both protected and open to the world spread out before it, with a view of the Crestalina Mountains and timeless cork oak forests. Sitting around the deep, circular swimming pool measuring ten by five metres, you cannot fail to imbibe the clear, clean air and breath in the sense of contentment. Steps from the pool area take you to a spacious covered terrace with rattan furniture - ideal for everyone to come together at the end of the day for the well deserved drink and tapas to discuss what you have or maybe more importantly, what you have not done. Overlooking the pool, is a third terrace for breakfast, lunch and dinner and below the pool a garden has been hewn from the wooded mountainside filled with oleander and  agapanthus. A garden seat provides another spot to watch the sun go down and let your thoughts meander in their own direction.

Villa Details

The interior spaces of the property  are on several levels. The sitting room lies at the heart of the house with a double height ceiling filled with paintings carefully curated to inspire a joyous mood with brilliant colours and abstract forms. Modern sofas sit next to antique pieces and a  large Turkish Kilim bought from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul lies proudly on the floor showing off its geometric design. There is an open fire at one end and a flat screen television at the other. A few steps lead to the intermediatory level where you can fully appreciate the expanse of this living area. To the left, past a large bookcase, you will find a well equipped kitchen - the kitchen of lovers of good food, where there is no shortage of the appliances essential to the thoughtful cook. A heavy wooden kitchen table seats six people and through the French Windows there is a further dining area that can seat eight.

The east wing of the house has two bedrooms that share a bathroom with a walk in shower. One bedroom has a king size bed and one has twin beds. On the floor above, accessed by a curved staircase displaying a photograph of roman ruins,  is a large comfortable master bedroom with a king size bed and en suite bathroom also with a walk in shower. The fourth bedroom is on the lower ground floor - the coolest spot in the house. This too has a double bed and it's own bathroom with a walk in shower, painted in an unforgettable African blue and is particularly well placed for that early morning dip. All bedrooms have air conditioning but other parts of the house do not.

This is a generous house, evocative of the spirit of it's owners who have thankfully decided to share the experience with others.
