Andalucia benefits from a warm climate for several months of the year and correspondingly there are more insects than you would encounter in cooler climates. Ants, wasps and mosquitos are more abundant so please remember to bring repellant and anti-histamine cream if you are sensitive to stings or bites. Food left out for just a short time can attract ants very quickly. Eating outside or barbecuing in the afternoon may encourage wasps – hence the Spanish tend to have lunch inside and supper outside after dark when the wasps have all gone to sleep. Knowledge of local customs will help you to enjoy your holiday to the full.
It is now a legal obligation to bring a photocopy of your passport – all properties are required to register the names of guests and supply passport copies.
Whilst Spain has come a long way with its infrastructure, the countryside can still, at times, be a little behind the cities and on occasion there may be power cuts or the internet connection may not function due climatic conditions. (Internet is usually through a microwave system in rural situations. Sometimes it can be rectified by simply unplugging the router and letting it reset itself). Contact the Spanish Office if there is an extended period without these facilities.
There are generally no refuse collections from individual houses. Large bins at collection points are frequently to be found at the side of the road. Please take your refuse regularly to avoid attracting insects.
In the event that you or a member of your family require medical attention there are several options depending on the severity of the condition. The local hospital at Ronda is currently on the El Burgo road just off the main intersection on the edge of Ronda.
